HOW TO START YOUR CAR WITH A DEAD KEY FOB

As the automobile industry becomes increasingly modernized with new technologies introduced every day, there’s bound to be issues that arise as well. One of the most common issues with car technology is when a key fob dies, leaving the driver unable to start his/her car. Fortunately, there are several ways to start your vehicle with a dead key fob.

The simplest method of starting your car when the key fob dies is to replace the key fob’s battery. The most likely reason your key fob isn’t working is that the battery ran out of juice. You will need to use a small screwdriver or something, like a dime, to open up the key fob. Key fobs use button cell batteries, which come in different sizes, so make sure you purchase the proper size battery.

Some car manufacturers have created backups in the occasion your key fob stops working or isn’t able to be detected by the car. These automakers provide a spare key within the key fob itself, which can be used to start the vehicle manually. Even in cars that use keyless entry, there is usually a key slot located underneath the car’s start button or a round plastic cap on the steering column. You can pop off the plastic top and use the physical key to start your engine manually.

If you don’t have a spare key in your fob or your vehicle doesn’t have a physical key slot, some automobile makers have included a different backup in case your key fob battery dies. If your car is unable to detect your key fob, try pressing the start button with the key fob itself. Some models are designed to detect dead key fobs when pressed directly against the start button, in case of emergency.

While one of the most common causes of a dead key fob is the battery, in some cases, there are other reasons that your key fob isn’t working or being detected. If the key fob is defective in any way, you will need to replace it with a new one. You can get a replacement from the dealership or purchase an aftermarket fob that will need to be reprogrammed to your car.
