INFINITI BREAKS NEW GROUND WITH CUTTING-EDGE ENGINE DESIGN

INFINITI has officially announced their development of the first production-ready variable compression ratio engine. Twenty years in the making, this engine design is also one of the most advanced internal combustion engines ever created. Promising great performance specs and even better consumer benefits, this break-through will shape the future of the auto industry in a brilliant way.

“It is a revolutionary next-step in optimizing the efficiency of the internal combustion engine. This technological breakthrough delivers the power of a high-performance 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine with a high level of efficiency at the same time,” said Roland Krueger, President of INFINITI Motor Company.

The technology behind the Variable Compression-Turbo (VC-T) is tricky. To put it simply, the engine utilizes a computer controlled-adjuster that allows the compression ratio change. Whereas most engines have fixed ratios, the VC-T can vary from a highly-efficient 14:1 to a maximum performance 8:1 and back again. The driving situation is detected by advanced engine control logic and prompts the ratio to adjust in real-time.

Improved performance, economized fuel consumption and lower emissions, lighter vehicle weight, and a reduction to noise and vibrations are just a few of the aspects consumers can look forward to. The VC-T model is also a lot more economical to produce. It’s likely that this engine model will be featured in new INFINITI cars starting next year.
