Why Is My Car Not Accelerating?

Over the lifetime of your vehicle, there will be times when you notice that something isn’t working quite right. One of those issues might be a lack of acceleration power when you press down on the gas pedal. Whether you’re trying to get onto the highway or uphill, you need to rely on proper acceleration. Let us know if there’s an issue. We’ll run through the following four most common reasons why your car isn’t accelerating properly.

Foot On Accelerator

You Have Dirty Sensors

There are two different sensors in your vehicle that contribute to your acceleration rate. These are your mass airflow sensor and your oxygen sensor. The purpose of these parts is to control the airflow that is going through your engine. Without the proper air/fuel mixture, acceleration and efficiency will be affected. Our technicians can quickly clean a mass airflow sensor to help the problem, but an oxygen sensor needs to be replaced if it’s dirty. Look out for a check engine light. You’ll usually get an alert if your sensors are malfunctioning or dirty.

A Malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor May Be to Blame

It’s ideal that your throttle position sensor is properly communicating with your automobile’s computer to open and close your throttle valve angle as needed. This part may be malfunctioning, and this can decrease a vehicle’s performance.

Your Fuel Filter Is Clogged

Your fuel filter is located inside of your engine, and it prevents sludge and particulates from accumulating. If you don’t have your fuel filter changed periodically, this can cause your acceleration to feel indolent. We will ensure that enough fuel is reaching your engine through a clean filter to maintain optimal acceleration.

Your Air Filters Are Dirty

Inside of your owner’s manual, you’ll find recommended service intervals for things like periodically changing out your air filter. If you’re keeping up with regular appointments at INFINITI on Camelback, we can take care of this service for you. If you let a dirty filter stay inside of your engine for too long, you’ll find that your acceleration ability decreases.

Contact INFINITI on Camelback if you would like to find out more about the reasons why your vehicle may not be accelerating how it did when you first drove off our lot in Phoenix. Our technicians can quickly determine the problem, and we’ll get your vehicle fixed up in no time.
